Rajwada Palace:

The most important tourist spot of Indore City is the Rajwada Palace. It is the oldest historical monument of the city and was built by Malhar Rao Holkar, the founder of the  Holkar dynasty in 1747 AD. Before the British came to India, Holkar Dynasty was the one that ruled this place for the longest time. The 7-stories palace is located in the center of the Khajuri Bazaar, the busiest area of Indore City. This area is considered as old Indore.

Famous tourist place in Indore

Facing this magnificent palace is a garden that has the statue of Queen Ahilya Bai Holkar. The building architecture is a blending of the Maratha, Mughal and the French style. The monuments are made of Gopura Stone. The balconies and windows have bastions. The entrance door is arch-shaped and is made of wood along with iron studs.

The lower three stories are made of stone while the upper floor was made of wood. The palace got burnt thrice and the maximum destruction happened in the fire of 1984. Now the palace is turned into a garden.

How To Reach- Rajwada can be reached by M G Road and Imli Bazaar Road using any transport. Cycle Rickshaws are easily available to reach Rajwada from the nearby locations.

Lal Baag Palace:

This one- of- its-kinds palace in Indore has the gates that are exact replica of the gates of Buckingham Palace located in London. These gates were casted in London and then brought to Indore. Lal Bagh is considered as one of the greatest structures belonging to the Holkar Dynasty.

It showcases the greatness and glory of this dynasty. The palace is used to arrange important functions and celebrations of the city. With its beautiful gardens and awe inspiring architecture, the palace keeps on attracting the tourists.

How to Reach - The palace is located on the road named Lal Bagh Road and can be accessible from any part of the Indore city using any mode of conveyance. To reach here from the nearby location, cycle rickshaws would be preferable.

Town Hall:

This is one of the most visited structures of Indore City. The hall was built in 1904 and was named as King Edwards Hall. The architecture is the blending of Indian and Gothic style. In 1948, the hall was renamed as Mahatma Gandhi Hall.

The building is made of Seoni Stone. There is a magnificent four-faced clock tower in the front of the Town Hall and that is why the hall is also known as Ghanta Ghar. This hall houses different types of exhibitions e.g. book fair, painting exhibitions as well as many festival and events get organized here through the year. The hall has a library, temple and a children’s park.

Chhattri Baug:

The place is located on the bank of River Khan bears the memories of rulers of Holkar Dynasty and their family members. There are seven tombs or Chhatris. They are kept within two compounds. The largest tomb is of the founder of Holkar Dynastry, Malhar Rao Holkar I. Other important tombs are of Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar and Male Rao Holkar, her son. The tombs are connected by a prayer hall that is rectangular in shape. There is a garbha griha that houses carved pillar, statues and arches. Bhogs are offered at these chhatris.

Parks in Indore:

The parks in Indore are beautifully decorated with plants and are one of the best tourist spots that travelers should never miss during their trip to Indore.

Kamla Nehru Park:

It is one of the most known tourist places of Indore.  The park was built by The British and was known as Biscor Park. After the Independence of India, the park was renamed as Nehru Park. The park has library, swimming pool, children’s hobby center and varieties of roses. The children like to ride on the miniature train and battery operated cars that run within the park.

Meghdoot Upvan

This is one of the largest parks in Indore. It is an important place of attraction for local people as well as tourists. The park has sprawling lawns, garden terraces, fountains and water springs. The serenity of this park is very relaxing and soothing for people of all ages. The park is considered as a great picnic spot. People can also visit the Mangal Merry Amusement Park that is very close to Meghdoot Upvan and is a favorite place for all.

Museums in Indore

Central Museum

For the history buffs, the Central Museum of Indore, also known as Indore Museum, is a must-see place. It houses huge range of Parmar sculptures of Hinglagarh. Museum has huge collection of coins, figures and exotic ornaments.

History buffs would appreciate the Hindu and Jain sculptures from medieval and pre-medieval era that are kept here. There are two galleries in this museum, one of this showcases stone tools, sickles made of quartz, ornaments and household items and the other gallery shows the carvings based on Hindu mythological.

Temples In Indore

Khajrana Ganesha Temple:

One of the most visited places of Indore is this temple. People from the city as well as surrounding areas come here to offer prayers and seek blessings. Ralamandal Wild Life Sanctuary:

The wild life sanctuary is built in 1989 and is spread over an area of 5 sq km. Varieties of exotic fauna are found here such as Leopard, Sambhar, Blue Hall, Jarak etc and many flora such as Teak, Eucalyptus, Babool, Bamboo etc are also found here.

Market Place In Indore

Sarafa Bazzar:

This market or Sarafa Bazzar is located on the western side of Indore behind the Rajwada Palace. The place is known for jewelry items and delicious food items that are not found anywhere else in India. Food shops at Sarafa Baazar open after 8 PM when jewelry shops get closed.

The varieties of items found here are samosas, pani puri, pav bhaji, sabudana khicdi, malpua, phha. Dahi Bade, Chaat and Bhutte ka kees are also very popular items that are found in this bazaar.
